Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornstarch Main ingredient for creating the quicksand.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Can be substituted with any type of oil.

Additional Materials

  • 1 unit mixing bowl For combining the ingredients.
  • 1 unit spoon or spatula For mixing the ingredients.
  • optional drops food coloring Optional for adding color to the quicksand.
  • 1 unit plastic tray or container For easy cleanup and play area.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pour 1 cup of cornstarch into a mixing bowl.
  • Add 1/2 cup of vegetable oil to the cornstarch.

Mixing

  • Use a spoon or spatula to combine the ingredients.
  • Mix until the cornstarch and oil are fully blended, and the texture feels smooth and slippery.

Testing Consistency

  • Tap the mixture with your fingers. It should feel solid when pressed but melt through your fingers when you let it go.
  • If it’s too dry, add a little more oil; if too wet, add a bit more cornstarch.

Adding Color

  • If you want to add flair, mix in a few drops of food coloring while blending until you achieve your desired shade.

Enjoy and Play

  • Transfer the mixture to a plastic tray or container for easy mess cleanup.
  • Let the fun begin! Experiment with different motions: fast and slow to see how the quicksand behaves.

Notes

Additives: Include glitter for sparkle or small toys for extra fun. Experiment with different food coloring combinations for vibrant results. Swap vegetable oil for coconut oil to change the scent and texture slightly. Always use with adult supervision.
