  • 1 cup Baking soda Key ingredient for crystal formation
  • 2 cups Water Hot water helps dissolve baking soda faster
  • 1-2 pieces Pipe cleaners, any color Shape into fun designs
  • 1 pieces Jar or glass One for each crystal
  • 1 pieces Spoon for stirring Use to mix baking soda into water
  • 1 pieces Pan for heating (optional) Helps dissolve baking soda faster
  • 1 pieces String or thread (optional) For hanging the crystals
  • Food coloring (optional) Add for colored crystals

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Twist and bend the pipe cleaners into fun shapes such as snowflakes or icicles.
  • In a pan, boil the water (not necessary but recommended for faster dissolution).
  • Stir in baking soda until fully dissolved. Note: It will bubble and foam initially!
  • Once fully mixed, carefully pour the solution into your jar.
  • Allow the solution to cool for a few minutes before proceeding.
  • Attach string to your shaped pipe cleaner or place directly in the jar. Make sure it’s suspended and doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.

Growing Crystals

  • Place the jar in a quiet, undisturbed spot for several days.
  • Watch as crystals begin to form, checking back for visual updates.

Finishing Up

  • Once crystals have fully formed (in about a week), gently remove the pipe cleaners.
  • Display your beautiful creations as desired!

Notes

You can experiment with different shapes, sizes of pipe cleaners, and even try salt or sugar solutions for varied crystal effects.
