Materials for the Sensory Bin

  • 1 large container Blue sensory bin (or any large container)
  • 1 bag Black or dark blue rice (for space background)
  • 1 pack Silver glitter stars
  • 1 pack Glow-in-the-dark stars
  • 5 pieces Plastic planets and astronaut figures
  • 3 pieces Miniature rockets
  • 1 set Tongs or scoops For scooping and playing
  • 3 pieces Small bowls for sorting
  • 1 string of lights Optional: LED lights for added glow

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Step 1: Fill the sensory bin with black or dark blue rice to serve as the backdrop for your galaxy.
  • Step 2: Sprinkle silver glitter stars and glow-in-the-dark stars throughout the rice for sparkle and excitement.
  • Step 3: Place plastic planets and astronaut figures around the bin, ensuring they are partially buried for a treasure-hunt feel.
  • Step 4: Add miniature rockets for kids to launch in their play. They can practice scooping them up with tongs.
  • Step 5: Encourage the children to dig through the rice, describing the objects they find and fostering imaginative play.

Notes

Customize colors with dyed rice that corresponds to specific planets for educational purposes. You can also swap rice for other materials like beans for varied textures. Pair with space-themed snacks for a complete experience!
