  • 3 tablespoons Epsom salt or sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • as needed food coloring (optional) for color customization
  • 1 piece string or yarn approximately 8-10 inches long
  • 1 piece small stick or pencil
  • measuring cup for measuring warm water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Clean the glass jar to ensure it is clean and dry.
  • Measure 1 cup of warm water and pour it into the jar.

Dissolve the Crystals

  • Gradually mix in 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt or sugar into the warm water, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Optional: Add a few drops of food coloring to achieve your desired appearance.

Create Crystal Growth Environment

  • Cut a length of string or yarn, approximately 8-10 inches long.
  • Tie one end of the string to a small stick or pencil, ensuring the other end hangs into the jar.

Set Up the Garden

  • Place the stick across the top of the jar so that the string hangs down into the solution.
  • Seal the jar with its lid to create a humid environment for the crystals.

Wait for the Magic

  • Place the jar in a location with consistent temperature and wait for the crystals to form, which typically takes 1-2 days.
  • Check regularly to observe crystal formation on the string and at the bottom of the jar.

Notes

Experiment with different materials like table salt or baking soda for different types of crystals. You can also add small pebbles, glitter, or tiny figurines for decoration.
