- 1 sheet Clear plastic sheets or transparency film Base material for the suncatcher.
- Assorted sheets Tissue paper (in various colors) For creating the stained glass effect.
- 1 pair Scissors For cutting the template and tissue paper.
- 1 bottle Craft glue or Mod Podge To adhere tissue paper to plastic sheet.
- 1 sheet Black construction paper or cardstock For creating the snowflake template.
- 1 optional Paintbrush For applying glue evenly.
- 1 optional Hole punch For adding a hanging mechanism.
- 1 length String or ribbon For hanging the finished suncatcher.
Instructions
Preparation
- Set up a clean, flat area with plenty of light.
- Gather all your materials within reach to ensure a smooth crafting experience.
Creating the Snowflake
- Use black construction paper or cardstock to draw a snowflake design.
- Carefully cut out your snowflake design to form a stencil.
Assembling the Suncatcher
- Lay the clear plastic sheet over the snowflake template.
- Use a paintbrush to apply a thin layer of glue on the plastic sheet where you want the tissue paper colors to stick.
- Tear or cut tissue paper into small pieces and place the pieces onto the glued areas, overlapping colors for a stained glass effect.
- Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
- Once dry, remove the snowflake from the template.
- For a more finished look, glue a border of black construction paper around the edges.
- If desired, punch a hole at the top and thread through string or ribbon for hanging.
Notes
Consider using sequins or glitter for added sparkle. Create multiple suncatchers and hang them from a mobile frame for a dynamic display. Change tissue paper colors seasonally for themed decor.
