- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar use natural sweeteners if desired
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract fresh is best
- ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add an egg and vanilla extract to the mixture. Continue to mix gently.
- Slowly incorporate the flour and salt into the mixture until it transforms into a smooth, soft dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
Shaping and Baking
- Sprinkle flour on your work surface to prevent sticking and roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Use star-shaped cookie cutters to cut out stars from the dough, placing them on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- If using sticks or straws, press one into the bottom of each star.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes.
- Once golden, remove the cookie wands from the oven and allow them to cool completely before decorating.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze wrapped in wax paper for up to three months. Use leftover dough in spontaneous baking sessions.
