Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 jar A clear glass or plastic jar with a lid Choose a size that fits your projects.
  • Water Water Fill the jar almost to the top.
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil Use clear vegetable oil for best results.
  • Various drops Food coloring (various colors) Select colors to create a unique storm.
  • 1-2 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets or vinegar and baking soda Break into small pieces for best effect.
  • Optional sprinkle Glitter Add for sparkle effects.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Fill the jar almost to the top with water, leaving space for the oil and other ingredients.
  • Pour vegetable oil slowly into the jar and watch it float on top of the water.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring into the jar and observe how the droplets sink through the oil.
  • Break the Alka-Seltzer tablet into small pieces and drop them into the jar one at a time.
  • If desired, sprinkle some glitter on top to simulate stars or snow.
  • Seal the jar with the lid if you want to save it for later. Alternatively, continue by adding more Alka-Seltzer or vinegar and baking soda.

Notes

Experiment with different color combinations and sizes of jars for varied effects! Always supervise young children during this activity.
