Ingredients

For the Crystal Solution

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • as desired food coloring (various colors)
  • 1 clean glass jar clean glass jar or container
  • 1 string or yarn
  • 1 small sticks or skewers
  • as desired glitter optional for added sparkle

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a pot, mix the sugar, water, and corn syrup.
  • Heat the mixture on medium heat, stirring until all the sugar is dissolved (about 5 minutes).
  • Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer and watch as it thickens slightly.

Add Color

  • Remove the pot from heat and let it cool for a minute.
  • Add several drops of food coloring to the mixture and swirl gently to combine.

Set Up Your Jar

  • Pour the colored solution into a clean glass jar, leaving some space at the top.
  • Tie a piece of string or yarn to a small stick or skewer.
  • Place the stick across the jar, allowing the string to hang down into the solution, ensuring it does not touch the bottom of the jar.

Allow to Crystallize

  • Leave the jar undisturbed in a cool, dry place for several days.

Reveal Your Geode

  • After about a week, remove the string from the jar. Your beautiful sugar crystals will cling to the string, resembling geodes.
  • Gently rinse the crystals with water to remove excess syrup.

Notes

Color combinations can create a rainbow effect. Adding glitter can add extra sparkle. Experiment with shapes and consider using flavored extracts for scented crystals.
