Preparation

  • Gather all materials on a flat surface. Ensure kids have proper supervision.

Making the Sugar Mixture

  • In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of granulated sugar with a few drops of food coloring until the sugar is evenly coated.
  • Transfer your colorful sugar into small piles on a baking sheet or trays.

Creating the Fireworks

  • Use a spoon to carefully pour a small amount of white vinegar over each pile of colored sugar.
  • Watch as the vinegar reacts with the sugar, producing beautiful, fizzing 'fireworks.'
  • Enjoy the colorful bursts and listen for the fizzing sound as the reaction occurs!

After the Show

  • Allow the mixture to settle for a few moments and observe any changes.
  • Discuss the reaction that took place and what each ingredient contributed.

Notes

Try different types of sugar for varied textures and mix in edible glitter for added sparkle. Adult supervision is recommended, especially for younger kids.
