Instructions

Preparing the Sugar Solution

  • In a pot, mix 2 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
  • Place the pot over medium heat and stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
  • Optional – add a few drops of food coloring to create vibrant crystals.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then remove it from heat once all sugar is dissolved.

Cooling and Crystallization

  • Pour the sugar solution into heat-safe containers or molds.
  • If desired, place a string in the solution so that it hangs down. This will act as a base for crystal growth.
  • Allow the containers to cool at room temperature for several hours or overnight.

Observing Growth

  • Over the next few days, monitor the formation of crystals. They will start forming along the sides and bottom of the container.
  • Once you have satisfactory crystal growth, carefully remove them from the container and let them dry on wax paper.

Notes

Customize colors by experimenting with food coloring. Use various containers for unique shapes, and consider adding flavoring extracts for edible crystals.
