Materials

  • 6-10 pieces Plastic bottle caps or jar lids (cleaned) Assorted sizes and colors
  • 1 bottle Clear-drying glue (like Mod Podge or clear craft glue) For sealing the design
  • 1 sheet Tissue paper or colored cellophane Cut into small shapes
  • 1 piece String or fishing line For hanging the suncatcher
  • 1 piece Paintbrush For spreading glue
  • 1 piece Scissors For cutting materials
  • Optional A small dowel, stick, or window suction cup For hanging mechanism

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather an assortment of clean plastic lids in various sizes and colors.
  • Make sure the lids are free from residue.

Cutting Materials

  • Cut tissue paper or cellophane into small shapes such as squares, circles, or abstract forms.

Assembling the Design

  • Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of clear-drying glue inside the lid.
  • Arrange your tissue paper shapes across the glue, adhering them as you go to create a layered effect.

Sealing the Design

  • Once your shapes are in place, cover them with another layer of glue to protect the paper and give a glossy finish.

Drying

  • Set your suncatchers aside to dry completely, which can take a few hours depending on the glue used. Ensure they are flat to avoid any dripping.

Adding Hanging Mechanism

  • Once dry, tie a piece of string or fishing line through the lid, or use a small dowel or suction cup for attaching to your window.

Notes

Tips: Experiment with color combinations for unique designs, use cookie cutters for uniform shapes, and incorporate natural elements like pressed flowers for added creativity.
