Ingredients

  • 1 set Fabric dye (various colors) Choose a variety of colors.
  • 1 pack Rubber bands or string For securing the shirts during dyeing.
  • 1 piece Plastic squeeze bottles or spray bottles For applying dye.
  • 1 pair Plastic gloves To protect your hands from dye.
  • 1 piece Plastic table cover or trash bags To protect your workspace.
  • to taste cups Water For mixing with dye.
  • 1 large Bucket or basin For dyeing the shirts.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose a clean, flat surface to work on and lay down a plastic table cover to protect your workspace.
  • Gather all your materials within reach.

Shirt Folding

  • Choose a folding technique: Crumple, spiral, or tie into sections using rubber bands for different designs.
  • Secure tightly with rubber bands; the tighter the bands, the less dye will seep through.

Dye Application

  • Prepare the dye: Follow the instructions on the dye package, typically mixing dye with water in squeeze bottles.
  • Start applying colors: Squeeze dye onto the sections of the shirt.
  • For bold colors, apply liberally. For a more subtle effect, go easy on the dye and dab lightly.
  • Mix colors for unique shades!

Setting the Dye

  • Place the dyed shirt in a plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to let it sit for 6-8 hours (or overnight for deeper colors).

Rinsing & Drying

  • After setting, rinse the shirt under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • Wash it separately in cold water with a mild detergent and allow it to air dry.

Notes

Tips: Experiment with different folding techniques, use different fabrics, and consider adding embellishments such as fabric paint or stencils after dyeing.
