Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar until well blended.
  • Gradually stir in the water and vegetable oil using a whisk or spoon until the dough starts to thicken.

Cooking

  • Transfer the mixture to a saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously.
  • Cook until the dough begins to pull away from the sides and forms a ball.

Coloring

  • Remove the dough from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Divide the dough into portions and add food coloring to each piece; knead until the color is fully incorporated.

Custom Touches

  • If desired, sprinkle in glitter or add a few drops of essential oil and knead again to incorporate.

Notes

Store in an airtight container to prolong freshness. Use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors and add cornmeal for texture variations.
