Instructions
Preparing Your Workspace
- Choose a clean area: Lay down plastic covers or newspapers to protect surfaces.
- Prepare materials: Organize all materials within easy reach.
Tie-Dye Technique
- Prep the tie: Soak the tie in a water and vinegar solution for about 30 minutes to help set the fabric.
- Twist and bind: Twist the tie and secure sections with rubber bands or string to create a checker pattern.
- Mix the paint: Use a spray bottle to dilute UV-reactive fabric paint with a bit of water for easier application.
Painting
- Apply paint: Using paintbrushes or sponges, apply the UV-reactive paint to the tied sections of the tie.
- Cover and mix: Ensure each section is well-covered, but allow colors to blend slightly for a more dynamic effect.
Drying
- Remove bindings: Once you are satisfied with the coloring, carefully remove the rubber bands or string.
- Dry the tie: Hang the tie to dry completely, preferably in a shaded area away from direct sunlight.
Fixing the Paint
- Heat setting: Once dry, follow the fabric paint instructions to set the colors, which usually requires ironing the tie with a cloth over it.
