Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar (optional) Optional, for extra elasticity

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • food coloring (red, pink, or purple) To be added for desired color
  • fragrant extracts or essential oils (optional) Vanilla, lavender, or others for aroma

Instructions

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and cream of tartar. Whisk together until evenly blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, mix water and vegetable oil together. Add food coloring to the wet mixture, stirring until it reaches your desired shade.

Combine Mixture

  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while stirring continuously until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl and forms a soft dough.

Knead the Dough

  • Once it’s cool enough to handle, transfer the dough onto a clean surface and knead for about 2-3 minutes or until it’s smooth and elastic.

Add Fragrance (Optional)

  • If desired, knead in a few drops of essential oil or extract for a delightful scent.

Notes

Keep the play dough in an airtight container to extend freshness. If too sticky, knead in a little more flour. Safe for children, but supervise during play.
