Ingredients
  

For the Sparkling Heart

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • red or pink color food coloring Choose your desired color
  • optional amount glitter Adds extra sparkle

For the Heart Base

  • 1 large heart-shaped cookie cutter To shape the heart
  • 1 sheet cardstock or heavy paper Base material for the heart
  • 1 mixing bowl mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon spoon
  • 1 dropper or squeeze bottle dropper or small squeeze bottle For applying vinegar
  • 1 baking sheet baking sheet or tray To hold the heart during the reaction

Preparation

  • Cut the heart shape by placing the heart-shaped cookie cutter on cardstock or heavy paper and tracing around it. Cut out the shape carefully.
  • Prepare the baking soda mixture by combining 1 cup of baking soda with a few drops of food coloring in a mixing bowl. Stir until fully mixed.

Create the Sparkling Reaction

  • Place your cut-out heart on a baking sheet and spoon the colored baking soda mixture onto the heart.
  • If desired, sprinkle glitter over the baking soda to add extra sparkle.
  • Using a dropper or squeeze bottle, slowly drizzle vinegar over the baking soda on the heart.
  • Watch as the mixture fizzes and bubbles, creating a beautiful sparkling effect.

Notes

Experiment with different color combinations and add essential oils for a scented version. Allow each color layer to dry before adding another for layered effects.
