Eruption Ingredients

  • 1-2 tablespoons Baking soda Adjust based on the desired intensity of eruption.
  • 1 cup White vinegar Use approximately 1 cup for the best effect.
  • 1 tablespoon Dish soap Helps create more foamy eruption.
  • Food coloring Various colors can be used for customization.

Setup Materials

  • Plastic bottle or small container To hold the eruption ingredients.
  • Tray or baking sheet To catch the overflow from the eruption.
  • Clay or playdough Optional for creating volcanic shape.

Instructions
 

Preparing the Volcano

  • If using clay or playdough, shape it around the plastic bottle/container to form a volcano structure.
  • Place the volcano on a tray or baking sheet to catch any overflow.

Creating the Eruption

  • Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottle.
  • Add about 1 tablespoon of dish soap into the bottle with the baking soda.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring into the mixture for a colorful eruption.
  • Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle and watch as the eruption occurs!

Notes

Experiment with different vinegar types and food coloring combinations to enhance the eruption. You can also change the shape of the volcano and test in various environments.
