  • 1/3 bottle Water Fill the bottle about one-third full.
  • 1 bottle Vegetable oil Fill the rest of the bottle with oil.
  • various drops Food coloring (various colors) Use different colors for effect.
  • optional sprinkle Glitter Adds sparkle to the effect.
  • 1 unit Funnel For easy pouring.
  • 1 unit Small bowl or cup For mixing colors.

Preparation

  • Make sure your water bottle is clean and dry. Remove any labels to ensure a clear view of the colors inside.
  • Use the funnel to fill the bottle about one-third full with water.
  • Carefully fill the rest of the bottle with vegetable oil, watching as the oil and water separate.
  • Dip a toothpick or skewer into your food coloring and drop small amounts into the bottle to observe colors sinking through the oil.
  • If desired, sprinkle in some glitter for a sparkling effect.
  • Seal the bottle tightly with the cap and shake gently to mix the colors and watch the fireworks unfold!
