Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large watermelon Choose a ripe one.
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • Food coloring (various colors) Use multiple colors for a rainbow effect.
  • 1 optional plastic container For holding baking soda.
  • 1 spoon for mixing
  • 1 knife for cutting Adults only.

Instructions
 

Prepare the Watermelon

  • Choose a ripe watermelon and slice off the top (about 1/4 of the way down) to create a 'lid.'
  • Use a spoon or melon baller to scoop out the insides, leaving a hollow shell. Save the watermelon pieces for snacking!

Create the Eruption Mixture

  • In a container, combine 1 cup of baking soda with a few drops of food coloring for a fun effect.
  • Pour the baking soda mixture into the hollow watermelon.

Initiate the Eruption

  • When ready, pour in 1 cup of vinegar into the watermelon.
  • Stand back and enjoy as your volcano erupts with colorful foam and fizz!

Notes

Best prepared right before the eruption; ingredients can be mixed at the event for maximum fizz. Adult supervision is recommended for young children.
