  • 1 whole watermelon
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar can be flavored vinegar for added scent
  • optional food coloring to customize the color of the eruption

Supplies

  • 1 small bowl or cup for vinegar
  • 1 large tray or dish to catch overflow
  • 1 spoon for mixing
  • optional glitter or confetti for extra sparkle

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cut a small slice off the bottom of the watermelon to create a stable base.
  • Carve out the top of the watermelon, leaving some flesh inside for maximum eruption potential.

Mixing Eruption Ingredients

  • In a small bowl, combine the baking soda and food coloring.
  • Use a spoon to mix them together thoroughly to create a colorful paste.

Assembling the Volcano

  • Spoon the baking soda mixture into the hollowed-out top of the watermelon.
  • Pour the vinegar into the small bowl or cup.

Eruption

  • Carefully pour the vinegar into the watermelon filled with baking soda.
  • Stand back and watch as the eruption unfolds!

Enjoying the Show

  • Observe the colors and textures as the 'lava' flows down the sides of the watermelon.

Notes
