  • as needed crayons (various colors)
  • 1 pencil or pen
  • 1 iron
  • 1 ironing board or heat-resistant surface
  • 1 scissors
  • as desired colored tissue paper (optional)
  • as needed clear contact paper (optional)
  • as needed string for hanging (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Lay two sheets of wax paper on a flat surface.
  • Use a pencil to draw a shape on one sheet (e.g., heart, star).

Create Your Design

  • Shave crayons into small shavings using a pencil sharpener.
  • Sprinkle crayon shavings over the drawn shape on the wax paper.

Seal the Design

  • Place the second sheet of wax paper over the top of the shavings.
  • Carefully take your crafting to an ironing board.

Iron the Sun Catcher

  • Set your iron to a low heat (no steam).
  • Place a thin cloth over the wax paper (to protect it).
  • Gently glide the iron over the cloth, allowing the wax to melt the crayon shavings together.

Cut and Display

  • Once cooled, cut out your shape.
  • Use string to hang your creation in a sunny window, or tape it directly to the glass.

Notes

Experiment with different combinations of crayon colors to create unique designs. Add tissue paper pieces for additional texture and color variation.
