This simple textured lap blanket features an easy pulse created by alternating rows of double crochet with front post and back post double crochet for a gentle ribbed texture. It’s perfect for cozying up on a chilly day.

  • Total Time: 480 minutes

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, acrylic, about 1,530 total yards in 9 skeins, each skein 170 yards
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
  • Sharp scissors for trimming yarn
  • Tape measure for checking gauge and finished size
  • One stitch marker (optional)

Instructions

  1. Check the difficulty and stitch multiple: the starting chain uses any multiple of 4 stitches plus 2 for turning chain; for the sample size, chain 126.
  2. Make the foundation chain: form a slip knot, then make 126 chain stitches, keeping the chain relaxed.
  3. Work the first double crochet row: yarn over, insert the hook into the fourth chain from the hook, work 123 double crochets across, then turn.
  4. Build the plain rows: chain 3, then work 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Repeat this row until you have completed Rows 2 through 4.
  5. Add the raised texture row: chain 3, work front post double crochet around the next stitch and back post double crochet around the following stitch, repeat across.
  6. Repeat the five-row rhythm twenty-three more times, working until Row 121.
  7. Count stitches at the end of every row to ensure edges stay straight.
  8. Work the border: chain 1, then work 1 single crochet across the top edge and keep the border relaxed.
  9. Finish the second border round: repeat single crochet around and join with a slip stitch.
  10. Weave in the ends and trim.
  11. Block if desired by laying the blanket flat.
  12. Store the blanket folded in a breathable space.

Notes

This blanket works best as a light lap layer and is suitable for beginners with some basic crochet skills.
