  • 2 sheets Wax paper Cut into desired size.
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper To protect the iron.
  • 1 unit Iron Used with adult supervision.
  • 1 unit Scissors For cutting shapes after melting.
  • Optional variable Glitter For added sparkle.
  • Optional unit Hole punch For making holes for hanging.
  • Optional length Ribbon or string For hanging the sun catchers.

Preparing Your Crayons

  • Peel off the paper from your crayons.
  • Break the crayons into small pieces, aiming for 1-inch chunks.

Setting Up the Wax Paper

  • Cut two pieces of wax paper to your desired size.

Layering the Crayons

  • Place one piece of wax paper on a flat surface.
  • Arrange the crayon pieces in a colorful pattern on top of the wax paper.

Melting the Crayons

  • Place the second piece of wax paper over the crayons.
  • Cover with a piece of parchment paper to protect your iron.
  • Set your iron to a low setting without steam.
  • Gently press the iron on the parchment paper for a few seconds to melt the crayons.
  • Move the iron in circles to evenly distribute the heat.
  • After the crayons have melted, carefully peel away the parchment and wax paper.

Final Touches

  • Allow the melted crayon creation to cool.
  • Cut your sun catcher into fun shapes like hearts, stars, or circles.
  • Optionally, use a hole punch to make a hole for hanging and attach ribbon or string.

Notes

Mix different colors for unique designs and consider using cookie cutters on warm, melted crayons to create various shapes. Experiment with sunlight placement to see how light changes throughout the day.
