Ingredients
  

Craft Materials

  • Old crayons Old crayons (various colors) Various colors can create interesting designs.
  • 1 sheet Wax paper or parchment paper Used to layer crayon shavings.
  • 1 An iron Set to low without steam.
  • 1 pair Scissors For cutting shapes.
  • 1 optional Craft knife For precision cutting.
  • 1 optional Hole punch For creating hanging holes.
  • 1 string or ribbon String or ribbon (for hanging) For displaying the sun catchers.
  • 1 flat surface A flat surface (like a cutting board for safety)

Instructions
 

Preparing the Crayons

  • Gather Old Crayons: Collect the crayons you want to use. You can even experiment with different color combinations!
  • Peel the Wrappers: Carefully remove any paper wrappers from the crayons.

Creating the Sun Catchers

  • Grate the Crayons: Using a grater, carefully shred the crayons into small pieces.
  • Layer the Crayon Shavings: Place a sheet of wax or parchment paper on your work surface and spread a layer of crayon shavings.
  • Cover with Another Sheet: Once satisfied with the layout, place another sheet of wax or parchment paper over the crayon shavings.

Melting the Crayon Layers

  • Prepare Your Iron: Heat your iron to a low setting without steam.
  • Iron the Layers Together: Gently press the iron atop the wax paper for a few seconds, lifting the iron frequently to check the melting process.
  • Cool Down: After melting, remove the top layer of wax paper and let the sun catchers cool.

Finishing Touches

  • Cut Out Shapes: Use scissors or a craft knife to cut the cooled crayon sheet into fun shapes.
  • Punch a Hole: If desired, use a hole punch to create a space for hanging.
  • Add String or Ribbon: Attach string or ribbon for a charming display in your window.

Notes

Experiment with color combinations, and consider embedding small leaves or flowers for added texture. Different shapes and sizes can also be achieved through the varying amounts of crayon shavings used.
