  • 1 roll transparent contact paper or clear sticky tape Can use tape as a substitute for contact paper.
  • Assorted sheets tissue paper or colored cellophane Cut into small squares or shapes.
  • 1 count scissors
  • 1 count craft knife (optional for adult supervision) Use with caution.
  • 1 count hole puncher
  • 1 length string or fishing line for hanging
  • Optional supplies markers or paint for additional decoration Use to personalize your suncatchers.

Preparation

  • Collect and clean plastic lids, ensuring they are free from residue.
  • Choose lids of varying sizes for a more dynamic effect.

Design Creation

  • Cut tissue paper or cellophane into small squares or shapes.
  • Mix colors for a vibrant design, or keep it monochromatic for a classy look.

Assembly

  • Take a piece of contact paper, sticky side facing up.
  • Arrange your tissue paper pieces on the contact paper, overlapping them slightly.
  • Place a second piece of contact paper over the tissue paper to seal it and smooth out any bubbles gently.
  • Center the sealed design under the plastic lid and trace the outline.
  • Carefully cut out the lid’s center using a craft knife for a perfect fit.
  • Use a hole puncher to create a hole at the top of the lid.
  • Thread a piece of string or fishing line through the hole.
  • Choose a sunny window to hang your suncatcher and enjoy the colorful light it creates!

Notes

Consider making layered suncatchers for a three-dimensional look. Experiment with different sizes and shapes of lids for a more intricate display.
